Power Wheelchairs
A powered wheelchair may be suitable for you if:
- You need to be hoisted into your product
- You may damage your shoulders and arms using a manual wheelchair or handle bar style control unit of a scooter
- Or you require either dual controls where someone else is required to help control your powered wheelchair, any form of leg rest or support or joystick style controls.
The powerchair is driven using one hand by a joystick controller usually on the arm of the powerchair. However, the controls can also be sited for use by an attendant. Powerchair users tend to spend more time in their chairs than scooter users spend on their scooters. Because of this, powerchairs are usually more adaptable than disabled scooters and some models can have specialist seats and controllers fitted to suit the individual requirements of the user.
Powerchairs are also more likely to be used inside a user’s home, although many are equally capable both indoors and outdoors with many having maximum ranges close to 20 miles.
